    Hello,

Below are some of the observations/questions we need inputs (Clarity upgrade to v15.7 )–

    1. We can see there are folders created for each intermediate release (v15.5, v15.5.1,…..,v15.7,v15.7.1) under Clarity installer install packages and upgrade script executes in same order from v15.4->v15.4.1->…..->v15.7->v15.7.1. During in each intermediate upgrade, it does same set of activities like DB compilation, Clarity PPM Content upgrade and takes more than 6-10 hrs in each install package. So is this how upgrade from v15.4 to v15.7 behaves in the background? Why is it take much time for DB compilation in every mid upgrade?
    2. PPM Content - Earlier version of Clarity allows us to install/upgrade Clarity PPM content post successful upgrade of Clarity but with this upgrade (v15.4 to v15.7) it is doing Clarity content upgrade in each intermediate release upgrade (15.5,..15.6,..,15.7) and this activity is taking 5-6 hrs in each intermediate upgrade so overall upgrade time is increasing heavily. So question here is, can we do this content upgrade post Clarity upgrade to v15.7 (same we did with v15.4)?
    3. How much time it took for upgrade in your case? (I know it varies on the basis of large, small data sets but just want to know hrs taken for upgrade script to finish)

    Hi Subha

Yes when you are coming from 15.4 there have been many releases after that and currently its 15.8 and thats the upgrade path it will take. Clarity content from addin is part of the upgrade you may need to apply/install from the UI. I recently did an upgrade from 15.4.1 to 15.7.1 with user base of 16k and it took 7 hours.

On some data it takes longer than usual depending on the quantity of the data. We recommend leaving few days for Production Upgrades as on large datasets it may take an entire day.
ClarityContent is always applied with each version and this cannot be changed.

To increase the speed of execution the install script, you may consider increasing the JVM memory for the script in memory.properties. Check out https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article?articleId=187775
This may save you some time of upgrade.

    Hi Nika, Suman,

Thanks for your inputs - but what we see in our case is that DB compile step is taking a lot of time. Almost 9 hours initially and then 4.5 hours again.
I am attaching the logs for one of the intermediate upgrade step.
Initially we suspected the RAM on the DB server is less which is slowing the process - which we increased, but we see no change in the DB compile time.
Because of this huge DB compile time - taking atleast 5 to 6 days to finish.
Any analysis or suggestions to check this slowness - will help.

    Best Regards,
    Dhruvin

    Hi Dhruvin

5-6 is huge and there is definitely underlying database issue. Install.log will not give enough information and we need to review your database health. It will be better if you can raise a case and we might need your database to try to upgrade in house and see the timing.

    Hi Dhruvin

I agree with Suman, if compile takes a while this indicates a database issue. Ensure you configured the database as per our requirements and see if DBA has any suggestions on why compile takes longer. Do they run regular stats?

Very important - if you have many customizations, i.e. custom tables, functions, procedures etc, those will add to the compile time as db compile compiles everything. We recommend removing all custom database objects prior to the upgrade. I have seen the time increase considerably when hundreds of custom tables added to the database.

Please check this out and if it does not help, raise a case with our support.
