Has anyone come across this issue and if so know what the cause may be? I have a user, actually a couple of users that when they open a project from Clarity to MSP a file labeled sched.nikusl gets created in their download folder and they are asked if they want to save. I attempted to open one of the projects and now I receive the same thing where prior to this the project(s) opened normally
Internet Explorer opens the sched.nikusl file automatically, it still gets downloaded into the temporary internet files folder but opened due to the extension .nikusl being associated to Schedule Connect and the configuration.Chrome and Firefox, due to different security design related to how are files being downloaded from the Internet by default, will either ask what you would like to do with the file and/or just download the file so that it can be opened manually, but this depends on your current browser settings.
By default, Firefox will ask if you want to open the file or save it to your downloads folder. You can also check the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" checkbox to set it as a new default option:
Chrome will download the file by default, but it can be chosen to "Always open files of this type" automatically by clicking on it in the bar that appears below:
Those files will still be downloaded to your computer, regardless of the browser and settings used, like IE does on the temporary files folder. All the above depends on your browser settings.
Some people have had similar problems, but no clear answer. See
sched.nikusl download file popup in Non IE Browser
Live with it and ask Nick during the next Office hours.
I just tried opening from IE and had no issue, so for now that may be a temporary solution. It may get confusing for the end users since we recommend the use of Chrome so other features of CA PPM work properly. This means they will need to be switching back and forth between browsers. Not a very practical end solution.
Chrome has a 100 file limit in the downloads folder. When using Chrome & this starts occurring, have the user delete all the sched.nikusl files and they're good for another 100 project opens.
I communicated this out to our PMs and has solved their dilemma
