  • 1.  CA Clarity Data Migration from 13.3 to 14.1

    Posted Apr 14, 2015 10:57 AM

    Hi ,

Presently we have a Dev (v 14.1) and Prod environment (13.3.0.0286)

We have requirement to put a fresh copy of Prod to Dev.

What steps are to be followed to perform this activity as Dev will be degraded to 13.3 during this task?

Also, the database schema has also changed from 13.3 to 14.1 so while this activity is performed what will happen to the data in tables/columns of 13.3 which are not present in 14.1.

Please advise on the aspects we need to take care of.

    Thanks in advance !

Just checking: can you upgrade production or downgrade dev. before doing this migration?

You cannot copy the database of a 13.3 over the database of a 14.1 (actually, you can only do that for indentical Clarity versions).

If you cannot downgrade or upgrade any of the environments, then you will have to copy data and structure with XOG. But this won't give you a complete copy, because some things (as running processes) cannot be moved with XOG.

This is the correct answer, thank you Roberto. Connecting unmatching Clarity app version to database is unsupported and will not work (app will not run). You will have to use another, 13.3 environment if a copy is required, or upgrade the Production to 14.1.

throw away* your DEV system and re-install a clean/empty v13.3 in DEV , then copy your PROD database to it (at v13.3), then upgrade DEV to 14.1.

    * - If you have things (configuration, code etc) in your original 14.1 DEV system, XOG them out before you throw it away and XOG them back in once completed.

    best advice!

I bet they were not able to negotiate a third environment to test Clarity 14.1. That would explain the current config...
