  • 1.  Backing up Repo's

We have a 3 node Repo cluster and are discussing various backup strategies. Does anyone else currently do this? Or do you just use the Vertica vbr utility to back up the database itself? If you do use another application to backup the repo's, do you include or exclude the vertica directories?

We have a mirrored set of repository servers at an offsite location then use Vertica's clustercopy utility to replicate the data over on a nightly basis.  Works like a champ.

Does anyone use a separate utility (not vbr) to back up the O/S? If so, which directories do you exclude for vertica? OR do you also backup vertica along with the O/S?

This is outlined in the following Knowedge Base article:

kk - thanks for the reply. I see where you need any-to-any SSH (port 22) access between nodes in clusters for DR (disaster recovery). Do you also need any-to-any access for rsync (port 50,000) for either DR or regular backups?

The documentation on setting up disaster recovery is in the following link

Disaster Recovery - CA Performance Management - 3.6 - CA Technologies Documentation

But this requires that passwordless SSH is setup between all nodes in the primary site, with all nodes in the recovery site

In addition, it is required to have port 50000 open for rsync, from all nodes in the primary site, to all nodes in the recovery site; and visa versa. I have verified this with Vertica.
