CABI 4.1 PostInstall error

    Hi

I have installed CABI 4.1 and am following the post install instructions here ... Post Installation Configuration for CABI - CA Spectrum - 10.1 to 10.1.2 - CA Technologies Documentation

When I run the PostInstall.bat utility I get the following error ...

C:\Users\idc009spectrum\Downloads\PostInstall\postinstall.vbs(657, 4) Microsoft VBScript runtime error: Permission denied

    See screenshot for full details.

I'm sure the password is correct as I get an authentication error if I use an incorrect password.

Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas what's going wrong?

    Regards, John

    Hi John,

Assure you are running the PostInstall.bat from a temporary directory and the Anti-virus is temporarily disabled.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Copy the PostInstall folder from <CABI VCD>\utilities folder to the local disk.

    Thanks,

    Silvio

    Hi Sivio

I have used a temp directory, you should be able to see this in the screenshot attached to the original post.

I've just disabled AV and retried and get the same error message.

    Regards, John

    Hi Silvio

In the docs page it mentions the location of the log file, so I've had a look at this and here are the last few lines ...

[11/11/2016 14:34:06] [main] Did not selected to migrate CABI 3.x data
[11/11/2016 14:34:06] [main] Checking whether any CABI 3.x BIAR files are present

[11/11/2016 14:34:26] [main] UpdateCAFViewProperties ran successfully

This is telling me the utility ran successfully. Do you know is there some way I can check that it has or not?

    Regards, John

    Hi John,

    There are two postinstall.log files.

    - One is located in %TEMP% directory and will have a few entries

    - Another one is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SC\CommonReporting4\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\logging directory.

    Thanks,

    Silvio

    Hi Silvio

I have rerun the utility and still getting the vbscript error.  The contents of the log file in %TEMP% is as follows.

    [14/11/2016 12:51:40] [checkOSbittype] Windows 64bit system detected
[14/11/2016 12:51:40] [main] Verifying the current user permissions to execute this utility completely
[14/11/2016 12:51:43] [main] User belongs to Administrators group and has the permissions to execute
[14/11/2016 12:51:43] [RegValueExists] CABI installed path is D:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SC\CommonReporting4\

The contents of the log file in the logging directory is pretty much the same as before.

Is there some way to know whether the utility has run successfully or not?

    John

    Hi John,

Is this a Windows 2012 machine?

If positive, did you launch the Command Prompt (cmd.exe) window as Administrator?

I have seen issues running the Post Install procedure in a Command Prompt if it is not launched as Run as administrator.

    Thanks,

    Silvio

    Hi Silvio

Yes it is 2012 and no I wasn't launching as Admin. I have now tried that and still get the same error. See below screenshot.

    Hi John,

Have you tried deactivating the UAC?

Windows Server 2012: Deactivating UAC - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki

Have you tried running the postinstall.bat from another temporary directory (instead of yours user home directory)?

    Thanks,

    Silvio

I have just tried deactivating UAC (and rebooting) and using PostInstall from a new directory (C:\PostInstall) and running both as the default user (who is in the Admin group) and using "Run as administrator" ...

And I still get the same error.

Is it not possible to somehow check if the script has done what it's supposed to do?

    John

    Hi John,

This is what is expected in the last portion of the log file below:

    D:\Program Files(x86)\CA\SC\CommonReporting4\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\logging\postinstall.log

    Hi John,

Based in the following screenshots below, the vbscript is failing in line 657.

Please check why it is failing in the CopyFile operation.

Did you copy the whole PostInstall folder from the <CABI VCD>\utilities folder, as stated in the procedure below?

Customize CABI Setup for CA Spectrum

Perform the required configuration to deploy the Spectrum Customization on CABI machine.

Note: This utility restarts the CABI’s Server Intelligence Agent.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Copy the PostInstall folder from <CABI VCD>\utilities folder to the local disk.

    I hope this help.

    Thanks,

    Silvio

    Hi Silvio

I did copy the whole PostInstall folder... so I checked the destination packages folder for the BusinessObjects_ClientAction_CrystalReport_Parameters* files and they were in that folder.

I removed them and reran the PostInstall and it has now completed. The contents of the postinstall.log now end as follows ...

    .

    .

    [15/11/2016 15:48:57] [DeployCustomApps.java] File copied from .\cacaf\custom1\webpath.UdmCAFApp\web\WEB-INF\lib\webreporting.jar to D:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SC\CommonReporting4\tomcat\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\eclipse\plugins\webpath.UdmCAFApp\web\WEB-INF\lib\webreporting.jar

So it looks like for some reason those BusinessObjects_ClientAction_CrystalReport_Parameters* files were left in the packages directory and the script couldn't overwrite them so bombed out. Not sure how that happened as I don't recall getting any other error than the ones I've listed here. As the files are subsequently removed from the packages directory as part of the PostInstall script it looks like it must have crashed at some point, but I don't know when.

In any case it looks ok now so thanks for all your help.

    Regards, John
