Has anyone created wireless floor maps in CA UIM  or CA Spectrum?

I have an urgent requirement in a POC to show some basic wireless signal strength floor map .. while the metrics are in, the floor map template is a struggle.. this is available with some open source software

I don't think Spectrum was designed for this type of thing. We use Cisco Prime in tandem with Spectrum for wireless monitoring but there are things Cisco Prime does better. Heat-maps are Wifi specific so don't think there would be that much value for this in Spectrum (Since it's more generic than specific to wifi!).

I  was expecting this in UIM .. which has to by definition cover all technologies !!

I don't think it's possible with Spectrum either. Agreed that you have raw data, but there isn't a way OOB to representing the same in the form of maps as mentioned

    Cheers!

Solarwinds has this feature.. and it isn’t that complicated either..

The thing is that Solardwinds is a suite of products specifically aimed at certain things as Spectrum is with others. Sometimes vendors focus on different things. Solarwinds will not do everything Spectrum does and vice versa. Solar winds falls short of lots of things too. There is no 1 product to rule them all. You have to use a collection of tools in most cases, as expecting Spectrum to do everything is expecting too much. We try use CA tools wherever possible as they integrate well most of the times, but we still end up using other tools as well as CA can't be the best of everything all the time. They choose some areas and are very good at it in some cases - and other times not-so-good-but-getting-better. Spectrum is very good at many things but yes, wifi management isn't that great when compared to Cisco Prime but then it now has basic Wireless management - which is a good thing better than what was available before.

I disagree that it is a basic feature - There is a lot of info it needs from controllers and it also needs to do triangulation between AP's and you also need to have some sort of editor which works out the floorpan etc. it's not basic. In order to do a proper heat-map you even need to do a site survey and collect accurate data.

    Folks,

When we talk about the heat map feature is it live data or historical data?

    Thanks,
