    Issue:

When using the ALM Connector in Agile Requirements Designer, I receive the following error messages:
'This view is disabled- please login to ALM' and 'URL missing: Please provide a ALM service URL to proceed'.

    Steps to reproduce the error:

    1. In Agile Designer, click on the 'Connectors' pane.
    2. Choose 'HP ALM' from the list.
    3. In the 'Connectors', I receive the error message: 'This view is disabled, please login to ALM'.
    4. Click the 'Login' button.
    5. Enter in a User Name and Password, and click the 'OK' button. (Note that no ALM Service URL was provided)
    6. I receive the error message: 'URL missing: Please provide a ALM service URL to proceed'.

    Environment:

CA Agile Requirements Designer (ARD)- Agile Designer and GT HP ALM Service

    Cause:

Our current version of ALM utilizes another piece of software to communicate to ALM. It is called HPALMService and it is produced by CA. This service sits between ARD and ALM.

In order to use this ALM integration you will have to install the HPALMService on a machine accessible to you, and which is accessible to the location where your ALM is hosted. A single HPALMService can be used by multiple users, so it is usually preferential to install it in a communal location. The installed location of the HPALMService will be the ‘ALM Service URL’ field in ARD.

    Resolution:

If the ALM Services are not setup and configured, then you will not be able to use the GT HP ALM Service connector. This ALM Service URL can be configured from the ALMServiceConfigEditor. Once you have configured the ALM service, enter the URL in the 'Login to ALM' window in Agile Designer, along with username and password. If the configuration is correct, then you will be logged in and be able to utilize the ALM Service Connector in ARD.

Here is a document outlining how to install and configure the GT HP ALM Service: https://docops.ca.com/ca-agile-requirements-designer/2-2/en/reference/install-hp-alm-service

You can read more about how to use the GT HP ALM Service here:https://docops.ca.com/ca-agile-requirements-designer/2-2/en/exporting-and-importing/connect-to-hp-quality-center-alm-service

We also have a new integration with ALM which has been released in ARD 2.2. This new feature does not require the GT HP ALM Service. This new integration simply requires you to place the hosted URL of your ALM server and provide login credentials in ARD. The ALM REST feature, referred to as HP ALM Service in the Connectors Dock in ARD, will be continually enhanced over the next few GA releases, but it currently does not include all the features that the old HPALMService provides. It does allow you to import and export test cases with ALM. You can read about this new HP ALM REST service here: https://docops.ca.com/ca-agile-requirements-designer/2-2/en/exporting-and-importing/connect-to-hp-quality-center-rest
