set alarms whenever the SNMP devices, interface is in failure state

  • 1.  set alarms whenever the SNMP devices, interface is in failure state

    Hi,

How can we set alarm for SNMP devices, whenever devices are in failure state, or alarm for interfaces of the devices got link down, link up??

In snmpcollector probe, Is there any metric in metricfamily, which have been enabled to get the alarm??

For interfaces you can use "OperStatusPollable" / "AdminStatusPollable" monitors

At the device level Availability/ Reachability monitors might help

    Hi,

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I want to know one question from you.

As you suggested for interfaces in Template Editor tab, Is it possible when we configure AdminStatusPollable or operstatuspollable, Publish data or publish alarm from individual device configuration???

    configured like

Device>Interfaces> AdminStatusPollable or operstatuspollable>Publish data or publish alarm??

What is the diffrence between if we configure from Template Editor tab, or from individual??

If we enable monitoring for metrics like AdminStatusPollable or operstatuspollable, Publish data or publish alarm what threshold we set to get the alarm.

Yes, you should be able to publish data and set thresholds . If you configure in template it would be applied to all the devices/interfaces which matches the filter criteria

Thresholds would be based on the states

    ifAdminStatus

    1 : up

    2 : down

    3 : testing

    IfOperStatus

      1 : up

      2 : down

      3 : testing

      4 : unknown

      5 : dormant

      6 : notPresent

      7 : lowerLayerDown

How much threshold we set in IfAdminStatus, IfOperStatus  when we enable publish Alarm please let me know.

If you want to generate an alarm for any other states other when interface is UP, set the threshold to !=1

    Thanks for the suggestion.

1 more thing i want to know what is the threshold value when interface is down???

Or, you can use SNMPTD (Trap) probe to receive traps from your SNMP devices.

    Hi,

what's the problem we are facing in snmptd probe is that, we are not able to capture SNMP trap in SNMP-TRAP-monitor window.

We sucessfully installed net-snmp-5.6.1.1-1.x86.exe (4.2 MB), now we got binaries in C:/usr/bin.

    To capture manual snmp trap.

Then we run below command from CMD.

    snmptrap -v2c -c public 172.25.2.102 42 1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.1.0 sysName.0 s "MyHost" 1.3.6.1.4.1.1138.2.0 i 2

we change the ip address i.e 172.25.2.102  of the machine running snmptd.

Then we go to snmptd probe>SNMP Trap Monitor> then start the SNMP-TRAP-monitor, we are able to see the trap Authentication Failure for device IP 192.10.20.55,

then we do EGP neighbour loss from device end and we are able to see the trap with IP 192.20.16.46, then we stop the SNMP-TRAP-monitor,

and close snmptd trap window, after certain time we do link down for few more devices, to see more devices traps,

what happened is that when we see the SNMP Trap Monitor> then start the SNMP-TRAP-monitor unfortunately there was no trap in SNMP Trap Monitor window.

The SNMP-TRAP-monitor window is empty again, we are not able to see any traps ,since it was.

    So kindly suggest and needfull.

    Hi,

we are not able to capture SNMP trap in SNMP-TRAP-monitor window in snmptd probe IM configuration.

To resolve this problem we installed net-snmp-5.6.1.1-1 package, to capture SNMP trap manually.

after installing net-snmp-5.6.1.1-1 package, we run below command in cmd.

    snmptrap -v2c -c public 172.25.2.102 42 1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.1.0 sysName.0 s "MyHost" 1.3.6.1.4.1.1138.2.0 i 2

After running this command in cmd

we are able to see the trap Authentication Failure for device IP 192.10.20.55

    then we stop the SNMP-TRAP-monitor,

and close snmptd trap window, few time later we do link down for few more devices, to see either we are able more devices traps in SNMP-TRAP-monitor window not.

what happened is that when we see the SNMP Trap Monitor> then start the SNMP-TRAP-monitor unfortunately there was no trap in SNMP Trap Monitor window.

The SNMP-TRAP-monitor window is empty again, we are not able to see any traps ,since it was.

kindly suggest what we do from now.

PFA snap SNMP-TRAP-monitor window for your refrence.

    Hello.

Is your network device sending V3 traps ?

If yes, you need additional configuration in SNMPTD probe side.

SNMPTD needs to know EngineID, credentials, etc, which is required for probe to properly decrypt V3 Traps.

    Take a look at this.
