  • 1.  Number of Extra Partitions Increased in v8.2 and later

When you install a new database or database maintenance is performed, extra partitions are created to allow time for you to correct any data maintenance issues, if an issue should arise. With data_engine 8.4, the number of free partitions that are created has been increased from 14 to 30. The permissions that are required by data_engine 8.4 are now restricted to the minimum set.

Can anyone please tell what is the additional space required for creating each extra partition?

    Thanks in advance.

These partitions are created in an empty state, with date-ranges that are set to the future -- this is essentially a "buffer" to prevent data loss in the unlikely event that something goes wrong with data_engine maintenance overnight.  The extra partitions allow a larger buffer so that you will have a longer time to find and correct the problem.

Since these partitions are set for "future" data and because they are not actually used unless data_engine maintenance fails, the amount of space required to increase the number of partitions is negligible -- maybe a few hundred kilobytes.
