Is there a document listing the possible Nimsoft logs (and there is quite a few...) messages and their meaning? I looked around but didn't found any...

Dont even think, that CA has such a list ^^

For the Probes its "simple", every log in their own probedirectory, for the Server-Part.... well, give the Search-Feature of windows or find of Linux a try :-) and see what happens, and hope that a logfile ends with ".log" :smileyhappy:

    cheers

Once you have located the logfile, you need to decipher it. A task that might vary from easy to impossible, as it seems what is being logged has sometimes been selected by monkeys. :smileytongue:

Generating a document of every log message and its meaning is a daunting task and one that is usually doomed at the outset because of the rate that messages vary from one release to the next.

A couple things that would be helpful though would be documented message ids and description for the ones that are warning/error/critical status. That would make it easy to pick information out in preparation for discussions with support or in writing accommodations into the nimsoft probe configurations for fixing itself.

Along those same lines, using the same log format would also be nice. Today some logs have CR ending, some CRLF. Some use INFO/WARN/ERROR indicators at the beginning of the line and some don't. Even the format of the timestamps varies.
