API Portal 4.3 support on MS Azure

  • 1.  API Portal 4.3 support on MS Azure

    Hi,

    Could you please confirm if it is possible to deploy the portal (Docker containers) on MS Azure readily or would there need to be lot of groundwork to enable such a configuration.

    The reason I ask is that in the CA Website (API Developer Portal - CA Technologies ), the text says:

    "Supports the environments where your apps and APIs reside. Your API portal is deployed in Docker containers and can be used in private or public cloud, SaaS or hybrid models to suit what’s best for your business."

    However in the portal documentation (Prepare your Environment - CA API Developer Portal - 4.3 - CA Technologies Documentation ), it reads:

    "You cannot install Portal on a platform such as AWS or Azure. The only currently supported format is the OVA."

    Please confirm what the above 2 statements mean w.r.t. deploying Portal on Azure.

    Hello,

    The Portal 4.2/4.3 as it stands today cannot be installed on AWS or Azure.

    There is the option to use our SaaS API Portal, which currently runs on 4.3 ( https://docops.ca.com/ca-api-management-saas/en/release-notes-api-management-saas )

    Please talk to your account team, if you are interested in this option.

    Thank you posco01 for the response. One final question related to deploying the portal. Does it have to be only in the Docker Swarm Cluster or can we use any other orchestration engine like Kubernetes or deployment in a PCF platform.

    The API Portal is possible to deploy to Azure cloud as mentioned in chapter "Provision Your Own VM". The CA provided Centos is image is not available for Azure cloud. This is the difference.

    Hi, Conny has mentioned that it cannot be installed on Azure. Can you please confirm if you meant "it can be installed on Azure" or "it can be installed on Azure and supported by CA" should something go wrong ?  Are there any other points we need to consider while deploying in Azure, if it is possible ?

    You can ask support for that. I had same issue 01288842 - Azure Cloud support.

    "Case Comment added for case:01288842

    That's right they can have their own VM with CentOS 7.x installed and functional. Also they need to make sure that the VM meets the right requirement."

    I think, that MySQL in Azure is more challenging issue.

    Thanks mopatril. Yes, since 4.3 is brand new and requires Jarvis also (along with MySQL) to be externalized, we are not sure how this would all work in Azure. Hence at the moment we are deciding to go with the on premise installation.posco01 - please add any additional details that would be useful to consider.

    Hi @posco01, could you please confirm if there are any recent changes to the Portal deployment options - particularly the ability to host it on MS Azure.

    @Keshava Murthy Jayaram

    There have been issue with use MySQL on MS Azure for the Portal. These have been fixed in 4.2.9.4
    see https://docops.ca.com/ca-api-developer-portal-enhanced-experience/4-2/en/release-notes-api-developer-portal

    There have been no other changes regarding deployment.

    @Keshava Murthy Jayaram
    For 4.3.1 you should be able to install and use this on MS Azure also with Jarvis and MySQL.

    Thank you once again @posco01. So the statement "You cannot install Portal on a platform such as AWS or Azure. The only currently supported format is the OVA." in the documentation is only applicable to the OVA format based installer. We should be able to go ahead with the 2nd approach of provisioning our own VM  in MS Azure. Please confirm if this is not correct.

    @Keshava Murthy Jayaram Correct you should be able  to go ahead with the 2nd approach of provisioning our own VM(s)  in MS Azure. Please note, that you will need at least 2 VM's with 4.3.1: one hosting the Portal itself, and the other one hosting Jarvis.
