  • 1.  how to discard ports that have high discarding rate but we know that's nornal

    Posted Feb 24, 2020 10:23 AM

We have some ports like F5 and Cisco ports for a reason, they have very high error/discarding rate, but we consider that normal.

We can disable polling SNMP on those specified ports, pros are we will not be bothered by those monitoring/alert alerts. Cons will be one day if one of these interfaces really gets some other issues, we will not be able to know.

The other options is to adding those ports to alert exception list for specified alert types, so when we have a Perl /Python script to create an event to some 3rd party API such as ServiceNow, it will ignore them first. But for  this option, we will still see those alerts on NetOps Bar chart, Pie chart , event list…

Is there a way that we can mark the port high usage as a special color(for example BLUE instead of RED, but only on that port), also somewhere user can see it is normal so wont waste time to check them?

    Thanks!

    Regards

Use Groups to group your elements according to the need that you have. Create a group without those problematic interfaces. See the reports/dashboards based on the group selection.

We have created a Global collection in which we add these interfaces and for which we have a Policy that sets the alarm threshold to 0 (which is what you need to do to stop triggering alarms for errors or discards). Hope this help. cheers,

    thanks Veronique ?
Are you talking about Global collection under Spectrum, not NetOps?

Yes I am talking about the Spectrum Global Collection. Sorry if it was not the scope of your question.

If we set alarm threshold to 0 on Spectrum, we still see these high discard/error rate from bar-chart/pie-chart on NetOps, correct?

    Thanks again!

I assume yes. I don't use Netops but we have the same issue as you with CAPC indeed. It is quite annoying.

Thanks Veronique, I did down to Spectrum, I found the interface and went to detailed page like following scrrenshot, all threshold values have already been 0 there. What should I do?
