As a follow-up from our July 7, Rally Office Hours session, we’d like to share some highlights in addition to the questions that were asked, along with their respective answers.

Q: Can we have different Portfolio Items assignments for sections of the Project Hieararchy?

A: Rally's model is to have the portfolio hierarchy "belong" (or be define/assiged) at the workspace level. You will be better off modeling separate workspaces each with their own portfolio hierarchy rather than converging multiple teams in a single workspace that don't share the same portfolio hierarchy definition.


Q: I can never remember what the colors are aligned to when we customize them.  It would be nice to be able to see a legend

A: Please see this KB Article for the color codes used in Rally.


Q: Added a new iteration to current PI - The Release Planning report is not showing the new iteration - Is that because it is tied to a published plan ? Is there any way around this. Is we republish plans we lose the Features Added and Removed data - right?   Teams are not able to access the Test run section under test sets, it keep on loading. But when we open individual test cases then we are able to access it. This worked a few weeks ago the Throughput in the Team Board - 12 months.... any reason for that and why it is not customizable?

A: The iteration has to be part of the release and it has to have a work item assigned to it.


Q: I'm trying to fix a date query for one of my reports.  Right now it does not seem to be working - is there someone I can connect with to see if we can figure out why? I'm trying to display defects that are 7-10 days and 11-14 days in their own custom list.  I'm already using Today for the query and have tried that page on help and still not able to figure it out. 

A: An example of such query filter will be: ((CreationDate >= today-10) and (CreationDate <= today-7))  This will get you defects created between 7 days ago and 10 days ago.


Q: We have  RID dashboard set up with Response as a required field.  Within this dropdown is the option for none, but it will not save with this as the option.  Is this because we have set it as required?  The ROAM Board has None as a column as an option. Thoughts?

A: Required fields cannot be blank. Must set a value for required field(user entered) or set a default value.


Q: When will the new reporting UI be generally available? 

A: New Reports will become GA on 07.13.2022.


Q: Has anyone attempted to write an app which could create a work item with Project set to a particular setting?  I want anyone in R&D to have an easy (and mistake-free) way to create Defects for Sustaining team, now that this team is processing defects in Rally.   I worry that, without a button which can do this function explicitly, people will input defects into the wrong project and they will get lost.

A: Best Practice is to create templates for the types of defects, then have the 'triage' or 'dispatching' team know and them and use them correctly.


Q: Has Rally considered an option to disable attachment downloads and uploads based on access via SSO with MFA? 

A: This is a RFE. There is the ability to limit the list of acceptable file suffixes, but not disable attachments altogether.
