Rally Office Hours June 30, 2022 Recap

As a follow-up from our June 30, Rally Office Hours session, we’d like to share some highlights in addition to the questions that were asked, along with their respective answers. Each week we demo a portion of Rally and call it our Learning Corner. Here are a couple of recent sessions:

June 9, 2022: Updates on Cumulative Flow Diagrams and Cycle Time

June 30, 2022: New Timeline Refresher

Thank you to all who joined us live. We appreciate your feedback and participation in the last session and are looking forward to our next one. If you were not able to attend, there is always an opportunity to ask questions here on the Rally Community discussion board and we'll do our best to answer.

Join us every Thursday, at 12 PM ET (register for upcoming sessions). We look forward to connecting with you!

June 30, Session Recap

Q: Timeline view - is there a way to show only subset of milestones and not all project or workspace milestones as that adds "noise" in the visual representation of data?

A:

Q: What is the definition for "late" label on the Timeline?

A:  The definition of 'Late' can be found here: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/agile-development-and-management/rally-platform-ca-agile-central/rally/using/using-portfolio-items/portfolio-item-tracking/using-the-portfolio-items-page.html

Late: Work is not being accepted at a sufficient rate to complete the portfolio item before the Planned End Date. Considering the current date and the timeframe for the portfolio item, the rate of work being accepted is more than 40% lower than the necessary rate of acceptance in order to complete the portfolio item before the Planned End Date. The Percent Done field will be red.

Q: I'm looking for user stories that aren't sized. What filter do I add to the workview to find those?

A: You can use Plan -> Work Views, use the user stories object and then include a filter such as: Plan Estimate = <no value> , when you leave the value field blank then it will filter those stories who have no estimates and hence are unsized.

Q: What's the best place to learn about Rally?  There are multiple options.

A: The best place is in our Academy site, where you can find and take many classes. You can also check out our YouTube channel. There are a number of Rally playlists in this channel. Visiting our Rally Community is another recommended URL to bookmark, this is more to learn of updates as well as discuss your questions with our community.

Q: What are your recommendations for "Tag" management (duplicates, removing, usage)?

A: A workspace admin can administer tags. In the setup area -> workspaces they can click on their workspace, then click 'Tags' (on the left hand side) where they can archive or delete a workspace. You should note that tags are case sensitive which means that tags spelled with different casing are considered different. One way to find duplicates is to use Plan -> Work Views, then include the Tags field on the grid. You can include the Tags field to your filter as well. This way you can filter on the tags you need. You can further use that grid to bulk update the items to remove or update their tags. This is one way to find out if/which tags are in-use, to clear tags in case the workspace admin will later need to archive or delete

Q: Can you show duplicates, unused, archived, so on

A: A workspace admin can administer tags. In the setup area -> workspaces they can click on their workspace, then click 'Tags' (on the left hand side) where they can archive or delete a workspace. You should note that tags are case sensitive which means that tags spelled with different casing are considered different. One way to find duplicates is to use Plan -> Work Views, then include the Tags field on the grid. You can include the Tags field to your filter as well. This way you can filter on the tags you need. You can further use that grid to bulk update the items to remove or update their tags. This is one way to find out if/which tags are in-use, to clear tags in case the workspace admin will later need to archive or delete the unused ones.

Q: Has Rally considered scoping tags by project or workspace?

A: Tags do belong within a workspace. They can be administered by a Workspace Admin. S/He can archive or delete them.  Scoping them at a project level is not possible today, it'll require a RFE.
