VMWare ESX Server training

Hello experts,
I'm new in vitrualization.
I've installed vmware workastation v 7.0 and I also have VMWare ESX Server training dvd on Trainsignal for training so here are my questions:

Can I install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 3.5 on my VMWare Workstation v 7.0 for training?

Does VMWare vSphere Hypervisor 3.5 product different from VMWare ESX Server 3.5?

I'm asking you all of these questions because I want to be make sure that I can perform training with VMWare vSphere Hypervisor 3.5 following my Trainsignal's training disk for VMWare ESX Server 3 and because I'm not allowed to download evaluation copy on VMWare ESX Server 3, and because VMWare Customer Care couldn't properly reply to my simple question and I was referred to Community by them for advice.

Welcome to the Community - The challenge you will have is ESXi 3 is no longer publicly available - I would recommend following the training disk and use either vSphere 4 or vSphere 5 as the installation process is somewhat the same but the screens are different -

I would also Google vSphere 5 installation on Workstation which will identify a number of videos that will assist you with theinstallation.

Thank you for your quick response and advice.

I've downloaded VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 free-copy.

I'd like to install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 on my VMWare Workstation 7 on home PC with OS 7 64bit for training.

What I've done- Set up new virtual machine on my vmware workstation 7 for VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 installation with the following hardware parameters:

Memory- 2048MB

Processors-2

Hard disk(SCSI)-8GB

Network Adapter-Bridged

OS-64bit

I've managed to pass through all the prerequisites and reached to press F11 key to start the installation but I was prompted to reformat the drive and I've canceled the installation. I saved the newly created vhd for vSphere Hypervisor on my D partition and I know that I'm prompted to reformat only vhd not my entire D partition but despite that I was a bit affraid to carry on with the installation.

So this is my next question before I take any further steps.

Can I install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 straight on my VMWare Workstation 7 for training without affecting my entire physical hdd and performance on my PC?

Yes, It does not have anything to do with your actual partition and it will format  the portion of space it has taken from your partition to create the virtual machine disk. So basically it will eat up the physical partition space but does not do anything else like formatting the whole drive.

and performance on my PC?

No, it will affect your PC performance as the workstation will be running the RAM pages and CPU cycles on your physical PC hardware.

If permitted increase the RAM by some value so that you don't run into PSOD or any other issues. 2048MB is minimum required memory to run ESXi.
