  • 1.  SEP for Mac - Symantec Network Security Service

    Hi experts,
I have a few questions in regards to SEP for Mac. There seems to be limited information in this area.
There is a concern with disabling the "Symantec Network Security Service" (System Preferences > Network). Users may be accidentally or intentionally set the service to "Make Service Inactive".

    So the questions are:

    1. Can we set "Make Service Active" from SEPM? If so, how to do this?
    2. What is the process name for Symantec Network Security Service?
    3. Can we disable "Make Service Inactive" option from the normal user?

    Regards,
    Ain

    1. Can we set "Make Service Active" from SEPM?
No. The only control you have over SEP content filtering is described here:
How to troubleshoot SEP / SES - disabling network filtering and other components - how to disable network security is discussed in detail at bottom of article, below the screenshot of network preferences.

    2. What is the process name for Symantec Network Security Service?
SEP content filtering is provided by the SEP system extension - com.broadcom.mes.systemextension

    3. Can we disable "Make Service Inactive" option from the normal user?
Not via any SEP setting. This would need to be done via MDM, I think, by restricting access to Network preferences
