    Posted May 21, 2020 09:40 AM
    Hello,

I am needing documentation for Server Monitoring.  I have the main docs but what I am in need of is more in-depth understanding of all the items listed in Default Connection Profile.  If Broadcom cannot provide where else to get the information.

What is the purpose of each part of the configuration and the pros n cons of using each one?

What is needed in the network, windows server, windows desktop to configure these different items?  Perhaps only one is needed.

    Thanks,

    Dale

    Hi MrAnderson!

About "Default Connection Profile" from "Altiris Pluggable Protocols" component

All available there protocols are used by different solutions in ITMS, like
    For example:
If you will perform "Network Discovery" task and you have WMI, ICMP, SNMP, SSH, VMware protocols enabled with correct credentials and in your network there are different devices which support some of mentioned protocols.
    • Mac/Linux device in network and has SSH (not disabled by firewall) so during network discovery, NS will get more information about this discovered device
    • Windows OS device in network has SNMP or WMI protocol enabled (port isn't disabled by firewall)
    • Hyper-V server in network has WMI protocol enabled so during discovery task, it will also discover all available Hyper-v virtual machines on this server and you will see them in SMP Console (In case if you have installed Virtual Machine Management solution product) <-- Same for VMware esx server in network using Vmware protocol

Example of RTSM/RTCI solution product when you have WMI Protocol enabled in connection profile (in default or custom profile) and remote PC has WMI protocol and WMI port is opened and credentials are met, you can check all required information about this client device via mouse right click menu from SMP Console
In opened "Real Time Home" page below, you also can stop/start service(s), terminate/start process, reboot PC & manage Users, User groups for this client device.

Other protocols like AMT, ASF were used by Out-Of-Band solution (it is End of life many years ago in ITMS) There are remaining some tasks like "Boot Redirection" which requires AMT protocol, etc. (They related to Real Time System Manager/Real Time Console Infrastructure solution)

    About client side:
Make sure that your client device in network supports required protocol and it is not disabled by Firewall, so protocol port should be opened.
As example of SNMP, just make sure that SNMP service running on client device and your credentials in Connection profile for SNMP matches to what client devices have.

    Regards,
    IP.

    Hi Mr Anderson,

This one may be an 'oldie but a goodie', but it may just provide a few insights into the setup and use of Monitor Solution features:

    Monitor Solution Best Practice Guide

Some of the recommendations for scaling and sizing may be a bit conservative as it was written for version 7.x, but there are many tips that still apply to the current version.

    Much appreciated.
