Mixit, just a general take on this.
The "first generation" of this product is being rolled out now. I spoke with someone from Symantec much earlier this year when I first heard rumblings of a new product in an altogether different webinar last year. By all accounts, this first version is not robust and all-encompassing. Symantec is planning to roll out new features and functionality over the course of, well, years.
Given their past track record with SEP SBE (cloud) and the horrors of updates, pulled updates, lack of information regarding server reboots and the like, I wouldn't necessarily want them controlling MDM on a client's business phone - and possibly bricking it inadvertently.
While I realize everything is going to the cloud, most of Symantec's core processing is still Norton (consumer-based) desktop processing - either by design or by convention. That alone, is going to be a monumental hurdle to overcome.
Other security vendors have a much more comprehensive approach to this solution - one that is truly MSP-based, not one that relies on the end-client to do the work - and which encompasses both hardware and software, all based in the cloud.
