Whe try to install Monitor Agent on Altiris server results Error 50

"Already newer version installed..."; for sure a Monitor agent RMS alredy there for remote monitoring (agentless).

Does this means we are not able to use Monitor solution to manage an Altiris server ???

I believe that the Monitor Agent RMS is the site server equivalent of the monitor agent, especially as it uses the same install path as a MA.

I remember asking the Monitor Team about this the other year and they did clarify that point.

Except currently the NS not listed under "monitorable" servers !? Perhaps just have to add it somewhere ?

If you want to perform monitoring of NS server itself using local RMS via an agentless monitor policy, then you need to manually add NS server in resource target of default agentless monitor policy. (By default only non-managed or managed resources without Monitor Agent installed appears in default resource target of agentless monitor policy)

If you want to perform an agent-based monitoring of NS server using local RMS, then you need to add NS Server in resource target of appropriate agent-based monitor policy.

But I'm afraid that such usage of monitoring isn't officialy supported because RMS is for an agentless monitoring only.

    1. You can uninstall RMS on local NS server via add/remove "Monitor Service" from "Site Server Management" page ⇒ add another remote Windows 2003 SP2 x86 server or Windows 2008 R2 SP1 x64 Server and set it as remote "Monitor Service" ⇒ RMS will be installed on this remote Windows Server ⇒ Now you will be able to perform an agentless monitoring of resources via agentless monitor policies, using remote RMS machine.
    2. When NS Server will be without local RMS installed then it will automatically receive agent-based monitor agent x64 rollout policy (if it is enabled) ⇒ Monitor Agent will be installed ⇒ NS server with installed agent-based monitor agent will automatically appear in resource targets of default agent-based 2008 R2 monitor policies.
