Mass Retire Knowledge Category and Documents

Is there an easy way to select a large number of documents and do a mass retire of them or retire an entire category (folder) with all of its documents?

Other than fetching the docs in scope, i.e. by using index_doc_links and setting their status_id to retire(80), preferable by webservice or spel, I am not aware of any shorter way for this.
