  • 1.  Error when exporting to excel

    Hi

I am trying to export a spreadsheet of paths from a large use case.

I am going to: Manage>Path Explorer>Generate Test Cases>Full Coverage-All Possible Paths .... and this is smooth.

But when I "Export to Spreadsheet" and "Generate spreadsheet" this is taking along time (over night) and eventually crashes with the below message.
    "Error exporting Excel file.

Process threw an error! Details: at System.IO.MemoryStream.Write(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count) at MS.Internal.IO.Packaging.SparseMemoryStream.CopyMemoryBlocksToStream(Stream targetStream) at MS.Internal.IO.Packaging.SparseMemoryStream.WriteToStream(Stream stream) at MS.Internal.IO.Zip.ZipIOFileItemStream.Save() at MS.Internal.IO.Zip.ZipIOLocalFileBlock.Save() at MS.Internal.IO.Zip.ZipIOBlockManager.SaveContainer(Boolean closingFlag) at MS.Internal.IO.Zip.ZipIOBlockManager.SaveStream(ZipIOLocalFileBlock blockRequestingFlush, Boolean closingFlag) at MS.Internal.IO.Zip.ZipIOModeEnforcingStream.Dispose(Boolean disposing) at System.IO.Stream.Close() at DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Packaging.OpenXmlPart.FeedData(Stream sourceStream) at SpreadsheetLight.SLDocument.WriteImageParts(DrawingsPart dp) at SpreadsheetLight.SLDocument.WriteSelectedWorksheet() at SpreadsheetLight.SLDocument.AddWorksheet(String WorksheetName) at VTFExcelGenerator.ExcelJourneyExporter.OutputExcelSpreadSheet(StoredPathCollection pc) at VTFExcelGenerator.JourneyExporter.WriteExcelDiagram(String[] args)"

Advice appreciated on how to resolve (other than splitting up the use case or minimizing paths).

    Thanks!

    Hey, Chris,
ARD is built to not restrict the user in any way, so it all depends on the performance of your computer. Like other products it can't really open huge files unless you have enough memory. You didn't give any numbers, so I assume you want to export tens of thousands of paths or more. Which may be problematic here. It also depends on what Export Layout you are using.  The Spreadsheet layout creates a new excel sheet for each path, so you can really easily get over the allowed limit. Please provide more details about your setup.

You can split the paths into different Stored Path Types and export them separately. Which should help with your memory shortage issues.

You did not specify what version of ARD you are using. I would generally recommend upgrading to the latest version.

To provide a better answer for you I need more details on what your use case is and what you want to achieve. If you can add the ARD version, your computer specs, and the number of paths you want to export, that would be helpful.

There are many ways to export paths from an ARD.  You could try exporting the data using the Automation feature. You can generate excel sheets in it.  If you need to know more about automation, you can attend our next ARD Office Hours session, register here https://enterprise-software.broadcom.com/devops-office-hours

If you have any issues, you can open a support ticket.

    Thanks,
    Pavel
