If you've ever been frustrated by the fact that the AWI often hides toolbar buttons when the window is too narrow, you might be interested in voting for the idea I just submitted:

    AWI: responsive design

AWI toolbars should adapt dynamically based on the size of the window or device. There are several ways the toolbars could adapt to show more content in smaller windows:

    1. Truncate or abbreviate names
    2. Reduce spacing
    3. Display only icons
    4. Move some functions to a drop-down menu at rightmost side.

Below is a mock-up of a narrow window that employs some of these approaches to display more buttons in less space.

    Hi @Michael A. Lowry

Good idea. As you may know, the Menu Bar already has this behavior so it makes good sense to add this to the Toolbars as well.

    Hi @Michael A. Lowry,

    Thank you for your feedback.

In our efforts to make the Automic Web Interface accessible we ensured following improvements to tables and toolbars starting with the upcoming V23 release:

    • All actions that are otherwise available in the context menu are available in the toolbar as well.
    • Toolbar actions that exceed the available screen estate are shown under an expandable More button. This works in a responsive manner. If less space is available more actions collapse into the More button.

Thanks for the reply, @Matjaz Gorican. I'm glad usability & accessibility are priorities.

I think there might be demand for an option to display only icons. Icons are sufficient for power users, and it would eliminate the need to click the More button and hunt for a menu item. Tooltips could be added to reveal the name of each button.

I look forward to seeing v23 when it becomes available.
