Magnetic Encoder AEAT-9016 very noisy

Hi everyone - we are using the AEAT-9016 and are getting a lot of noise that eats into our accuracy budget. 

We've used the gap/alignment installation tool and are still getting noise. 

Interestingly, when we reduce the magnet-to-board gap to zero, the noise drops out. 

If anyone has had any issue similar, or even successes with this encoder please let me know!
