vSphere Virtual Infrastructure JSON API - Power on VM Postman Collection

May 18, 2023 06:09 AM

A collection of API invocations showcasing the Virtual Infrastructure JSON API (introduced in 8.0 U1)

This collection will attach a standalone host to a vCenter deployment, create a virtual machine on the host and power it on.

Requirements:
  • 8.0 U1 vCenter instance
  • A compatible standalone ESXi host (6.7 or later) with an attached datastore

The name of the host's datastore must be set into the 'datastore-name' variable.

The 'AddStandaloneHost' request may fail if the authenticity of the host's SSL certificate can not be verified by the vCenter instance. See the request's documentation for possible workarounds.

Following a successful run, in order to be able to rerun all the requests, the actions to perform are:
  • Power off the "JSON VM" virtual machine
  • Delete the "JSON VM" from disk
  • Delete the "JSON Datacenter" datacenter
