How to migrate vCenter VM to a new vSAN cluster when EVC is disabled?

Hi all,

We are currently running our vCenter VM on a vSAN cluster with ESXi 7.0U3 (EVC is disabled).

Now we’ve built a new vSAN cluster with 3 nodes and connected it to the same vCenter.

The plan is to migrate the running vCenter VM from the old vSAN cluster to the new vSAN cluster.

Once the vCenter is successfully migrated, we will remove the old vSAN cluster and its ESXi hosts from the environment.

Has anyone done this before? What’s the proper procedure or best practice to achieve this migration?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

The procedure is really straight forward.

1) Create new cluster under the same vCenter

2) configure vMotion network between hosts of both clusters.

3) Expecting the new cluster is made of same CPU vendor, but newer generation, you will migrate vCenter VM as any other VM.

Migrate both Compute and Storage at once.

4) Migrate all other VMs same way

5) Remove old hosts from the vCenter.

Thats It!!
