    Hey Everyone,

Is the Windows SAN supported on VMWare?  Would anyone use this for their environment?

Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you.

Bad news: not supported. MSFT iSCSI and NFS are both missing from VMware HCL. See:

    http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=san

(Microsoft is not listed as a vendor there...)

Good news: You can use StarWind Virtual SAN Free. Also Windows-based but iSCSI *IS* supported by VMware for 5.5 and 6.0 (NFS is on the way). See:

VMware Compatibility Guide: Storage/SAN Search (StarWind Virtual SAN Free)

Unlike Microsoft iSCSI implementation StarWind does fault-tolerance (synchronous replication), RAM & SSD cache, tiering, snapshots, log-structured file system (like NetApp & Nimble) and other nice things. Still for FREE :smileyhappy:

    Good luck! :smileyhappy:
