    Hi,

I'm not what we say newbie. Last time I use vmware server no test only. Now I want to know about ESXi. Is it like OS or just like vmware server that need OS to run that application?

    Thanks.

ESXi is a bare metal hypervisor just like ESX except ESXi does not contain a service console. Here is a link to a ESXi and ESX comparison.

I prefer ESX. Can I host virtual with different sub net? Let say my physical host using .191.x and virtual use .172.x and .176.x. Can it use same switch?

    Thanks.

Yeh, as some may claimed they really like ESX, we have to accept that there will be no more Legacy ESX after 4.1 version. Yes, you can have different subnet on the same vswitch. But to let different subnet talking to each other, you may need some sort of routing function.

athlon_crazy is right they will be making the switch to ESXi only in the next big release (whenever that is). I am also more comfortable using ESX vs ESXi but I'm in the process of adding a couple of ESXi host just so I can start the familiarize myself with it.
