  • 1.  WAN Bandwidth Requirements For vSphere Client

    Hello,

Does anyone know how much bandwidth the vSphere Update 1 client uses?

And what the minimum bandwidth requirements are for the client to work with no time outs.

We have a remote site that has a 192kbps satellite link. I can log on to the host server, but when I try to Edit Settings I get a "server took too long to respond" error message.

    Kind Regards,

    Keith

You can adjust the time out delay for the VI Client under the client settings - so teoretically there is no minimum bandwidth your will just be waiting a long when it pulls a lot of information like edit settings of a VM -

Add a management workstation at the remote site and use RDP to control the vSphere Client. RDP is very light and works well across a limited WAN connection. An old laptop works well and can tuck in almost anywhere. If necessary you can install an XP VM on the remote Host and again use RDP.
