Hello. We have 2 sites with an active and passive setup and there is SRM in place for recovery. In each site there is a Management Cluster and a Production cluster in vSphere. The SRM and Replication appliances are in the management clusters and being used to sync and protect/recover VMs in the production clusters. Is that an issue and is it best practice to put the replication appliance INSIDE the cluster with the VMs it's replicating or it is OK to keep it on a separate cluster?
The whole reason the question came up is because we are noticing slowness in vSphere replication.
SRM and Replication are 8.5 appliances and vSphere is 7.03. I've done the calculations with a bandwidth calculator and even with the distance and being generous with accomodating performance drop, we are still seeing what seems to be 5-6 times slower than the calculations say it should be.
Out storage is FCoE and the guys that manage it say we are not even close to maxing the storage system's capacilities.
Thanks very much.
