    Posted Aug 24, 2009 04:04 PM

installed vSphere CLI on my new Windows 7 workstation with powershell 2.0 and receive the below error:

vsphere cli Internal Windows PowerShell error. COM initialization

failed while reading Windows PowerShell console file with error 80010106.

    are these not compatible yet?

    thanks for any assistance.

Are you using vCLI or PowerCLI?

If vCLI, I'm confused about how PowerShell gets into the mix, can you explain?

apologies, i'm new to this app so unsure of the differences between the two versions.

i was under the impression both were powershell snapins.

i installed vSphere PowerCLI and receive the above error when launching from the desktop icon.

Does it work if you launch PowerShell and then type "Add-PSSnapin VMware.VimAutomation.Core"

The PowerCLI desktop shortcut still fails to launch with the same error, but i can now run commands from inside powershell after i added in the above snapin.

    this will suffice.

    thanks!

That will get you going, we'll look at the W7 issue, I think it may be related to our VIX component.

Any news on this as I have just installed the new version of PowerCLI on a Windows 7 machine and get the "PowerShell console file with error 80010106" still when I try and run the icon.

I can run commands from the Windows PowerShell but would rather be running them from the PowerCLI.
