vSphere 5 issues?

I am facing several issues that may be the result of the vSphere 5 upgrade.  I figured I would throw them out here incase someone is facing a similar issue.

After upgrading from vCenter from vCenter 4 to vCenter 5, I am unable to add the host to XenDesktop 5.5.  I re-added the ssl cert for virtualcenter but get an error when trying to browse objects using powershell. 

After upgrading a host from vSphere 4.1 update 1 to 5.0 (with the HP VIBs using imagebuilder), the host hardware status shows all memory modules on memory board 1 of a DL580 G5 with a status of "warning" and type = unknown.  Memory board 0 is unaffected.  Unfortunately, this server is out of warranty, HP reports that there are no known issues with their agent, and to try updating the firmware (which had no effect).

To troubleshoot this I was going to remove the HP customizations / reinstall with vanilla then try to readd them by first making a host profile, but the host profile creation fails. "Cannot update the profile.  check the profile for errors"

As far as I can tell, yes - though the official documentation is lacking at this point.

It's always been the understanding on this user group that you ALWAYS install fresh, never upgrade ESX.  Even if VM Ware tells you otherwise, installing Fresh is just a better idea since you don't inherit changes or settings, you start with a fresh install and new settings.  If you install fresh as I have done, I don't see these types of errors, nor do I see other posts mentioning these memory issues, so this must be an inherted issue or some file that didn't quite get fully upgraded.

Besides vSphere 5 has additional functionality you will lose if you DON'T install as fresh like datastore larger that 2TB (at least on local drives..).  Try install as a NEW ESX host and see what that does, I suspect your results will be different.

Since the hardware is no longer under warranty, that means it's at least 3 years old.. it is possible this server you are using is not on the HCL for ESx 5.0

I'm having the same issue with the HP CIM providers reporting all 32 DIMMs as "unknown" status.  I suspect it is an issue with the CIM providers and am working that angle with HP and VMware (but not getting very far).  The HP DL580 G5 is certainly still on the HCL and this problem is affecting just our DL580 G5s at this point (we've tested on the DL580 G4s, which aren't on the HCL but work fine and also on newer DL380 G6s).  Currently this is holding our ESXi 5.0 rollout up.

Since the creation of this thread, VMware has released ESXi 5.0 U1 and HP has already released a new CIM provider bundle (version 1.1.2-4).  I've applied this CIM bundle to a freshly installed ESXi 5.0 U1 (from VMware's image) and the memory warning bug still exists.  I'm still convinced the issue is HP's however, as the DIMM status is showing as "Unknown" instead of "OK" for the DIMMs in board 1.  Frankly, if I didn't need the HP CIM providers to get hard drive health, I'd not even bother installing them.

I've attached a screen shot of the warning message.  What's weird is that there are 32 DIMMs for board 1 and then another 16 for board 0, which makes no sense as there are only 32 DIMMs total in the server.  Then above that there are 32 more DIMMs that are actually properly named DIMM 1A, DIMM 2C, etc.  But I believe those are coming from the standard CIM providers included with ESXi and the ugly-looking ones are coming from HP's extensions.

For those that still care, I've been told via my open case with HP that a code fix for this is supposedly in place.  It is undergoing internal testing right now with a completion date set for around 13-Apr.  It is not clear to me if it will then be publicly released or if I'm going to be asked to test it as well.  In either case, hopefully a public fix is near.  I'll post back here when I see it publicly available.

I have an update now.  I received the following URL for the updated CIM providers for ESXi 5.x on 25-Apr but it took me a couple of days to get word from HP as to whether or not these were an official, production ready version or some pre-production release for me to test.  They eventually told me the engineers said these are indeed production ready.  The reason I asked that is because they are still not yet published on HP's web site at the normal places (server downloads page, vibsdepot.hp.com, etc.).  However, the URL does match up with the FTP site they normally use for the server downloads page, so it seems as official as we can get until they decide to publish them.  What is not clear to me is whether or not they are going to publish this specific version or are working on other bug fixes to publish a newer version in the coming days/weeks.

Regardless, with all those caveats, if you are willing to use them, the URL for the offline bundle is:
