  • 1.  Vmware tools msi package

    Hello,

Hoping someone can help me out on this one.

We have Esxi 5.0, and citrix XenDesktop 5.6.

I know if you install vmware tools on top of the XenDesktop VDA you create a world of problems because both the VDA and vmware tools contain a video driver in the package.  The vmware SVGA driver overwrites the citrix driver,a nd the xendesktop stops accepting connections.

The obvious fix would be to grab a MSI of the vmware tools, and use an option not to install the SVGA driver piece of the package. However all I can find in the way of vmware tools for esxi 5.0 is an .exe file. Anyone know if there is msi package  for this verision?

*I have no had any sucess with extracting an msi from the exe,

No luck.. I'm begining to think an msi package wasn't made for 5.0.

If you mount the ISO to the VM, then go to the VMs CD rom and launch the vmtools installer manually you will get the chance to customise the install, so you can decide if you dont want something installed:

That is my other option, but I was hoping I could come up with a silent install. We've got a ton of VDI machines, and it's a pain to upgrade tools manually each time it's needed.
