what could be the possible VM migration errors . I have checked vmotion is good among all esxi 5 servers in the cluster. i changed the migrate id  from 1 to 0 and back to 1 to resolve the vm migration issue .but still getting VM Migration errors . Could you please tell me what are the possible reasons for it  .. error is saying " general system error occurred "   details : preparing vm for live migration "  Thanks in advance

Look at vmkernel log for a better explanation why the migration might have failed. Also, run vmkerrcode -l to get a list of error codes.

General system error has occured is quite common and cant be much helpful.

some of the vms still have old virtual hardware version on esxi 5 . do you think it might be responsible for vm migration error. mostly have 9 but some of them still 4 & 7 .

no of course not, the vm hardware version might not result in the migration failure where the host plays the role. esxi5 does support hw 4 and 7.

Do you happen to have the vmkernel logs at the time of migration failure.? those will be highly helpful

So are you trying to vMotion a virtual machine and fails or using VMware Converter?

Also, zXi_Gamer is correct, you need to provide us some logs as "General system error occurred" is too broad.
