VMware Fusion 25H2u1 released

This seems to resolve the pointer sizing and location issues from the release notes and in my VMs I tested after updating.

    Yes, I can confirm this.

According to the release notes, Fusion 25H2u1 also includes a fix for the excessive memory consumption issues seen when running Fusion VMs.

From what I've seen in the last few "out of band" releases, it appears that we don't get any bug fixes for Fusion unless Broadcom is addressing a security issue. Which begs the question: how long would we have had to wait for this fix if there wasn't a security issue that Broadcom "needed" to fix?

The team has been pushing really hard to get this out the door, so I doubt it would have been long, but who knows. I am also just guessing here. I know they were very keen on solving this problem. I tested 6-7 builds in a timespan of 10 days or so personally to validate the fixes.

Duncan, that's good to know and thanks for the information. I'm sure the team was working hard to fix the issue, and I'm not minimizing their efforts.

    Paul;

    1) Could let me know if there is a set of instructions for upgrading to the new release without losing my existing Windows 11 ARM VM? I am currently on "Professional Version 13.6.3 (24585314)", running on a Mac M1 mini under Sequoia 15.7.4.

    2) Can you or anyone else clarify the meaning of the "Trade Compliance and Download Conditions" to which one is asked to agree? I'm trying not to be paranoid, but it seems that Broadcom has added a "broad-brush" legal agreement for anyone outside the U.S. It assumes that one has an knowledge of U.S. trade law. I'm in Canada and just use Fusion to run a genealogy application for my personal use, but I am now having second thoughts about using it at all.

    To upgrade,

    • Shut down all virtual machines (do not suspend them).
    • Quit the Fusion GUI,
    • Make a backup copy of all your VMs (a safety measure in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.
    • Download the Fusion 25H2u1 installation disk image from Broadcom.
    • Open the disk image file and double click on the VMware Fusion icon. The new version will be installed, overwriting the old Fusion application.

Your virtual machines will not be touched

When powering up your virtual machines the first time after the Fusion upgrade, do not accept the offer to upgrade the virtual machine's virtual hardware. Especially if your virtual machine is running a version of Windows 11 ARM before 24H2.

The export compliance agreement is a broad brush but the agreement is not just for customers outside the US. Those of us in the US have to agree to those same terms. From what I understand, Broadcom is asking about the trade compliance conditions because they are subject to US export regulations.

I'm not a lawyer but worked for companies where we had to get trained on the basics of export compliance. From what I understand, the agreement is there to acknowledge that

    1. you are not importing or allowing the re-exporting the product to a country that is subject to a US export ban, and
    2. you are not using the product for any purpose connected with chemical, biological or nuclear weapons or missile applications, and
    3. You are not acting on behalf of anyone that is on any US export denial list

    Hi Paul,

    can you please explain this:

When powering up your virtual machines the first time after the Fusion upgrade, do not accept the offer to upgrade the virtual machine's virtual hardware. Especially if your virtual machine is running a version of Windows 11 ARM before 24H2.

Why? Is this dangerous? In the past I always accepted to upgrade the virtual hardware..

    Thank you!

    Best regards,
    Stephan

I make this recommendation specifically for Windows ARM as a safety net based on some issues that have surfaced with Windows 11 ARM 23H2 and earlier when moving from Fusion 13.x to Fusion 25H2. There was a recent community post regarding boot failures of those older Windows versions when upgrading and I've done some testing. My testing has led me to believe that the safest way forward to avoid these issues (and one that will allow upgrade of the virtual hardware after Fusion 25H2 is installed) is to upgrade the VM to Windows 24H2 or later before installing Fusion 25H2

If you don't want to do that, I'd recommend that to keep the virtual machine at 23H2 or earlier and don't upgrade the VM's virtual hardware or turn on UEFI Secure Boot until the VM is upgraded to Windows 11 ARM 24H2 or later.

VMs running Windows 11 ARM 24H2 or later seem to be able to be upgraded to virtual hardware 22 (with or without Secure Boot enabled) without issue.

Also heed the note in the Fusion 25H2u1 release notes against attempting to downgrade a VM containing a vTPM device from hardware version 22 back to 21 or lower. It is unsupported and likely will cause the VM to be unable to boot.

I just updated to VMWare Fusion Pro 25H2u1 with no issues. Seems to be running ok.

    My specifics:

    • HW: MBP M3 Pro
    • MacOS: Tahoe v26.3
    • from VMWare Fusion Pro 25H2 to 25H2u1
    • Windows 11 Pro 25H2

    best regards,

    Paul;

Thank you for providing the instructions to upgrade to the newest version of Fusion. It was FAR easier than I had thought. I was then able to update the Mac O/S to Tahoe and everything is working just fine.

Yes, seems to be working. I can now use with the "Use full resolution for Retina display" and "Automatically adjust user interface size in the virtual machine" options with no issues.

Note that the following issue originally noted in the Fusion 25H2 release notes has not been fixed by either Fusion 25H2u1 or macOS Tahoe 26.3:

    • When VoiceOver is activated on macOS Tahoe 26, powering on a VM fails

@Neethu Kumar Swamy and Broadcom: you replied to a question on this issue in an earlier post. Is there any update from Apple?
