VMWare Fusion 25H2 Regression - Linux mouse cursor offset, no problem with Fusion 13.6.4

  • 1.  VMWare Fusion 25H2 Regression - Linux mouse cursor offset, no problem with Fusion 13.6.4

After upgrading to 25H2, on Linux Guest (Ubuntu ARM Wayland), if the mouse is set not to be optimised for games, then the mouse cursor is offset from the actual click location. The offset is strange - the cursor offset jumps when the cursor changes between a pointer and resize arrow shape - for some cursor shapes it overshoots the location, for some it undershoots.

Also, on Windows Guest, the cursor somehow got reduced and became tiny.

I'm using Retina mode for both Linux and Windows.

Downgrading to VMWare 13.6.4 solved the issue. Same config, same virtual machine, same everything.

(Running MacOS Tahoe with MBP M4 Max)

Same MBP as you, same setup, same problem. In my guest Win 11 Arm the mouse pointer position jumps slight on changing from pointer to a drag indicator. Usually an undershoot. On click it jumps back to the correct position.

i also see strange scaling on WinForms apps when running in scaled resolutions on a retina display.

A workaround to turn off Retina display is suggested in https://community.broadcom.com/vmware-cloud-foundation/discussion/mouse-cursor-size-in-windows-11-arm-vm.  It works on MacOS, leaving a huge pointer size but it's livable.

Similar/related issues in Windows 11 VM's with pointer size and pointer click location offset, discussed here:

    https://community.broadcom.com/vmware-cloud-foundation/discussion/mouse-cursor-size-in-windows-11-arm-vm

    Caused by the 25H2 release.

Hmmm. Broadcom has admitted to making changes in the graphics on Workstation to accommodate a switch to Vulkan as the preferred renderer. Perhaps those changes have leaked into Fusion (Workstaiton and Fusion do share some common technology, even though Fusion uses Metal under the hood).

I certainly hope that Broadcom is not planning to eventually force the use of Vulkan onto Mac users. There are plenty of problems with it (primarily due to buggy AMD and Nvidia GPU drivers) on Windows and Linux.

Is anyone aware if Broadcom is working on a fix to 25H2 release regarding mouse cursor offset that was introduced with this release?  Thanks.

    Kind regards and blessings,

    Joey Maxie

    Hi @Neethu Kumar Swamy

Can you provide an update?  This bug makes it extremely frustrating to write code in VS Code inside the guest VM.

Host: Macbook Pro / Mac OS Sequoia 15.7.2
Software: VMWare Fusion Professional 25H2 (24995814)
    Guest: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS (Wayland)

I tested in Firefox on a 14" MBP on Ubuntu at 3024x1890 res at 200% scale, with this tool, and it shows about a 10pixel offset, down and to the right:

Any news on this annoying issue in December 2025?

    TIA for fixing.

As a workaround you can try to disable "Use full resolution for Retina display" as described here: https://community.broadcom.com/vmware-cloud-foundation/discussion/mouse-cursor-size-in-windows-11-arm-vm
It worked for me to solve the offset issue.

Hi Neethu, how about a new VMWare Fusion release in March 2026? 25H2 has been huge regression, so please put all your efforts into an ew release. TIA

An update to Fusion  (25H2u1) was released on 26-Feb-2026. According to the release notes it contains a fix for cursor position and size issues.

I am also having offset cursor problems using Windows 11 and Mac OS Sequoia, which I never had before (I'm a longtime user of VM Ware Fusion). And my VM Ware tools will not load (I get an error message). This means no drag and drop for my files between platforms. My cursor pointer in Windows is also really small. After a while, I just gave up trying to fix things. Hopefully, an update patch will be posted sometime soon.

It is January 15th, 2026 and I am affected by this VERY annoying bug as well.  MBP M4, MacOS 26.1, Fusion 25H2 with various Linux distributions.

It is almost impossible to edit text files in gedit, Qt Creator or VS Code.

I would be nice if this bug gets a fix soon.

I think the only feasible solution is switching back to v13 for the time being. I don't know whether 25H2 introduced any improvements worth the inconvenience of living with this fundamental input device problem. Given the versioning scheme (26H1, 26H2, etc. - 'H' meaning 'half a year wait') and the developers' incentive landscape (it's essentially a free product now), my guess is that we might need to wait until May at least to see anything fixed.
