    Hi Everyone,

I'm receiving this warning frequently everyday from some of my ESXi server which is running on Dell Power Edge 2950-III:

    Status: Warning (Yellow)

Alarm: Host hardware sensor status changed

    Time: 10/24/2010 10:30:55 PM

Sensor "Battery on Controller 0 Charging ..." equal Warning.

Sensor "VMware Rollup Health State" equal Warning

is there something wrong with my ESXi server ?

    Thanks.

No, it is a harmless notification that you RAID controller backup battery is recharging.

    Hi Albert,

Tomi is right. It is a known problem with those Raid controllers but it is not really a failure. Have a look at this thread.

As written it's a normal feature for the PERC controller that has a scheduled learning cycle for the battery.

On vsphere 4.0 this task generate much alarms, but after I have upgrade to 4.1 I got the alarms only during the learning cycle.

how long would that be to charge the battery ?

    Some hours...

I suggest to check in OpenManage that the battery is fine, and then reset the alarm in vCenter.

Thanks for your reply Andre, unfortunately all of the ESXi servers doesn't have/installed with OpenManage (due to no backplane for out of band management network absence).

Yes I have reset the Alarms on the ESXi. It works for now.
