I have an ESXi 3.5 host server with one VM and am trying to import using Vcenter 4.0. I think the UNC path I am entering is not correct and I get 'unable to connect to network share'. We do not have anyone familiar with Linux in shop to verify the correct syntax for connecting to the datastore and vm files on the ESXi 3.5 host. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You must use Virtual Infrastructure as a source.
You do not use any UNC sintax, but simply specify the IP, the user and the password of your ESXi.
Then you can choose a powered-off VM.

I have vSphere 4.0 with vCenter 4.0 with vCenter Converter in stalled as a plug in. I tried the IP with username and pw of the ESXi host but I get the message 'non-UNC path specified'.
Please provide some screenshots.

Hello Dwisby,
Are you able to resolve the UNC path? Are the DNS configurations correct? Try using the IP address of the machine instead of the machine name in the UNC, once you confirm that it is pingable.

The ESXi host and guest are in pingable and in production so there is network connectivity. I have tried using the IP and it states that a non-UNC path was specified.
Thanks for you assistance.
Hello David,
If you are running the network share on NFS then may be this article helps.
