vMotion on 80% cluster utilization

Hi gurus

I am trying to cycle reboot a cluster of 4 Esxi, the only problem I have before I kick the tires, is that ALL 4 hosts are at 82% Mem Utilization, can I still use motion to put the server on Maintenance Mode or will it break bc there is space on the other 3 Hosts, is there something like local paging on ESXi host that allows the motion to happen even if it goes over 100%.

Hi,

vSphere using some memory management features to handle these situations, but it depends on your services requirements. There are some general recommendations:

1. Do this operation when your services have lowest activity and reduce impact of memory compression, swapping and others.
2. You have to accept risk of failover capacity because you will face with performance impact and service downtime, if one host fail after putting other one into maintenance mode. 
3. Power off some virtual machines to reduce cluster memory usage.
