  • 1.  Vmotion gateway - console gateway

    Hello all,

I am currently working on configuring a new HP chassis and 16 HP Proliant BL460c G7 blades within it.

I have got the 16 blades on our network and in our vSphere environment.

I am going to be splitting up the 8 nics as follows....

    Management network - 2

    Vmotion - 2

    FT - 2

    Production - 2

This was suggested to us by a HP guy who help configure the 1st blade. He is currently off on holiday so hence coming here.

The management address: (given to us by network team)

         IP - 172.25.24.17

         SM - 255.255.255.0

         DG - 172.25.24.1

The Vmotion address: (given to us by network team)

         IP 172.25.86.167

         SM - 255.255.255.0

         DG - 172.25.24.1

What I cant understand is why the Vmotion gateway is at 24.1 - When I go to change the gateway on it to 172.25.86.1 it then changs the management address to that and disconnects the blade from the network.

    Why does it do this?

Hopefully some of this makes sense and as always I appreciate any help.

    Austin.

Use the Gateway for your VMkernel network. The gateway can be the same for multiple VLANs, it just means that the VLAns live within the same switch/router/stack. I hope this makes sense. You should be ok by using 24.1 as  your DG.
