  • 1.  VM Guest unresponsive

    I often get offline alerts for a ESXi guest. When I login to vSphere, I see the VM is on and can open the console. After opening the console, I'll find the VM not not responding to any commands such as ping or RDP. This time, I happened to see desktop instead of the lock screen. The desktop shows the timestamp of when the machine went "offline". Has anyone else seen this issue. I don't see anything in vmkernel logs or the event viewer for the guest.

    ESXi Server 6.0.0,3568940 is old patch version  . try to update lastest patch for the 6.0

    I have upgraded to 6.5U2. I'm hoping that resolves the issue.

    What type of vmnic?

    The ping tests  the same subnet or on different subnet and behind a firewall?

    AV on server?

    Pings are on the same subnet. There is AV on the server but that isn't the issue. Even from the ESXi console, the VM guest is not responsive. The timestamp that shows on the screen is frozen to a prevoius time. Nothing is both the guest and host logs.

    Check the file vmware.log in paste of VM.

    Do you have snapshot on VM?

    Its good we have the server upgraded to the latest and greatest. Please monitor it and next time if this happens include more findings like

    Does it affect only this VM and not others?

    1. Logs from vmkernel.log from ESXi host and vmware.log  for the specific VM during that timestamp.

    2. vCenter tasks and events to check what activity happened before it hung.

    3. Windows operationg system version like 2012 R2, 2016 etc.,

    4.System event logs and application event logs in csv format

    5. Suspend state of the virtual machine - https://ikb.vmware.com/s/article/2005831

    6.If you have any findings from Microsoft from the kernel memory dump.

    Please log a support ticket with all this information with VMware.

    It only affects this one VM. There was another VM it occurred to only once. The other two VM's have not experienced any issues. Will provide more issues if it occurs again.
