  • 1.  VM freezes but still accessable through NIC and other ports...

I have a VM that is on an ESX 4 box and it freezes up about every week so that the SQL database on it is not usable. However, if you ping it or telnet to ports that have services it seems alive. The only error that I can find in the logs that is common to all days it happens is:

    vmdebug - EventID 3

VMDebug driver (version 7.3.3.3) was not enabled. This driver is required by the replay debugging feature of VMware Workstation.

If you are using other VMware products or not using replay debugging, please ignore this message

It just seems like a warning but it still is the only thing that is common to all days it does this. The only other thing that was done to this machine is that the CPU's were raised from 2 to 4. I know that is says it can make the machine unstable if you change them, but it was running for about 3 months fine before this behavior started.

Can anyone tell me how to fix the warning about the VMDebug before I go changing the CPU's back?

    Thanks.

By every week, is it the same time every week, could it be a vm backup or something that might be queising the database incorrectly, snapshots maybe?

What you could try would be to clone the VM and isolate it on the host, then reduce the CPU's on the cloned one and see if you get the same thing.

Sorry, not sure what the debug is.
