    Hi all,

Can someone please tell me exactly what does a heartbeat response mean?

    In the sense that -:

-: if it does not send a heartbeat, the vmtools service is not running or vNIC have disconnected or what in the guest OS is not working...

-: if it does send the heartbeat...does it mean that the machine has network connectivity or that CPU is not busy.....

The VM heartbeat is being done by the VMware Tools within a VM. If these aren't send out it usually means that the vmware tools service isn't running. It's the same heartbeat that's being used for vmware vm ha:

Am I correct in saying this:

The VM can be up and running...

...with all other services\applications running smooth...

    ...with network connectivity active...

...no strain on memory or cpu...

but because the vmtools service is not running or failed, I will get an alert on the heartbeat failure and HA will restart the machine?
