    Hello,

I currently have a platform in vmware 6.7 update 2.

I was able to notice the following details on my VCSA server. (see photo1 and photo2).

Indicates that the guest operating system is: Other linux 3 (64 bits)

    Virtual Hardware 10 - ESXi 5.5 Compatibility

I understand that this is resolved by turning off the vm, in general options of the vm and changing to the correct operating system that in this case would be Photon.

Regarding the virtual hardware that is in version 10. I want to take it to version 14, to update the virtual hardware, I know that the change is irreversible once it is carried to the latest version 14, the operating system is affected after the change of virtual hardware ?, Has it happened to you?

I ask this, because I have several servers with the same scenario that the operating system of the vm, does not match the installed operating system and hardware version 10 and 13.

That is what snapshots were made for.

    Power off the VM.

    Create new snapshot.

    Upgrade virtual hardware.

    Start VM:

if all works out well - use snapshotmanager and "delete" snapshot.

If you run into problems - use snapshotmanager and "revert" to snapshot.

    I have one question: Why?

What features would you like to use with VCSA that are only available in vmx hardware version 14? If there is no reason to change this, I would leave it at VMware Appliances as VMware intended it to be. In some cases this will save you a lot of trouble.

The VM hardware version 10 is the minimum because it fixes critical vulnerabilities, but anything above only increases the maximum limits of VM configurations. And as long as you don't want to run a VM with 6 TB of memory, in most cases it doesn't make sense to set the vmx version > 10.
