  • 1.  Video Memory for a VM

By default all the VM's we created (ESXi 5.5 , vcenter 5.5) have 8mb video memory

What if i change the memory from 8 MB to 56Mb

Where is this extra memory taken from .

Do i have to increase the memory (RAM) for the VM or plan for memory upgrade on the host.

I wanted to know where the memory overhead impacts

I believe the additional memory for the Video will be taking out of what you allocate a VM.  Give a VM 4GB of memory then allocate it 56MB of video memory, you should see the drop in the overall memory count

Every virtual machine will have overhead and that is where it will be taken from, so this is additional memory on top of whatever you configure for the vm.

This memory can not be deduplicated (TPS) so be aware of this when making the design decision.

    Hi Kitaaab,

It's in the Web Client in VM > Monitor > Utilization section.
