VI client problems on Vista

I installed the VI client on a Vista workstation and when I click on the Virtual Machines tab, I get an unhandled exception error. The error states that the "Input string was not in a correct format".I can click on the Hosts tab and that works fine. I don't have this problem on my XP workstation. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?

I don't think the VI Client is supported on Vista yet.

You can use Web access (browser) though.

You have documentation for this? I don't think Vista is the problem, and I do believe it is supported.

I have had Vista since Beta, and while I do have some problems with Vista, VIC is not one of them. It's worked fine for me.

We get occasional .Net errors while using the client on Vista, but nothing major. The big thing to watch for is a bug with Vista where you can't deploy from customized templates. We log into the VC server to do that.

Try installing .Net 1.1 on your vista client. I think by default only 2.0 and 3.0 are installed.

I have .Net versions 1, 1.1, 2 and 3 installed. The weird part is that sometimes it does work when I first go in, but then if I click on another tab and then back to the Virtual Machines tab, I get the error. It's strange that this is the only tab that gives me issues.

    2 things.

Vista is very sensitive to Registry issues. Even if you didn't do anything, the registry constantly get's updated. So you need a good registry fix/clean program, and you pretty much have to do it once a week.

The other thing is SP1 works better. Have you tried updating to Vista SP1?

I'm on the client version 2.0.2 50618 and aside from the issue mentioned above about using a custom template to deploy, I don't have any issues running on Vista.

Could someone help me here, as I am receiving the same error, but am running the VI client on XP.

Any Ideas what could cause this ?

VMware support pointed to the following which corrected the problem for me:

I'm running the vi client for vc 2.5u1 and it works fine on my vista box... HOWEVER!!! if you have that areo fluff enabled, it really slows down the client.

Not sure what the official stance is on running it on vista but i haven't had any problems besides when areo was enabled.

Aero isn't the problem either, it's your video card. The VI redraws with each element, but that's not a aero problem. Even if you turn it off, and you find that it works for you, that just means your hardware isn't fast enough to support Aero.

Vista has it's share of problems, but SP1 is out, have you tried updating to SP1?

The only problem that I have had with Vista and the VIC is that I

cannot create/edit my customization specifications. What hapens when I

get to the time zone piece and click on the drop down, it's empty.

Therefore, I cannot complete the customization. I usually do that on

an xp VM I have setup.
