  • 1.  VCSA authentication in a Samba environment

I've just installed the vCenter Server appliance and it is performing very well. However, I can't figure out the best way to set up authentication in my Samba-only environment.

With vCenter Server 4, I ran the server on a Windows XP x64 machine which was a domain member. This meant that all of the domain users were available as vSphere users without further configuration.

With  VCSA, as there is no option for LDAP, I have tried to configure it for Active Directory. It seems that Samba is not sufficiently like AD to satisfy VCSA. Is there any workaround, or do I have to carry on logging in as root?

I've started testing out VCSA and just ran into the same issue.  We use a samba domain and it doesn't seem let let you connect to it.

    Bump.  Any traction on this?

With VCSA 5.1 and the new SSO facilities, I've been able to add my LDAP server as an authentication source, which works fine for me. It's the same LDAP server that my Samba installation uses, so the usernames and passwords are all the same.
