VCSA 6 install error - Supplied name not valid

When installing a second vCenter I keep running into the errors:

1. Firstboot script execution error.

2. The supplied System Name vcenter-01.domain.local is not valid.

3. If the supplied system name is a FQDN, then make sure the DNS forward lookup results in at least one valid IP address in the system. If the supplied system name is an IP address, then it should be one of the valid IP address(es) in the system.

This is a second vCenter install I am working on. I installed a vCenter 6 appliance with the psc and vCenter in our DR creating creating the vsphere.local (we are installing new hardware and moving from 5.0) just fine. At our Prod site I am running the appliance iso using a newly setup esxi 6 u1 host. I join the SSO site and create a new site name or join the existing, I am using a dvgroup with a Ephemeral port on the dvSwitch. I have triple checked the DNS settings. There is a host and pointer record for the esxi 6 host and appliance, I can run a nslookup from multiple machines with no issues.

Any thoughts as I am stuck.

I'm confused as to whether or not you are creating a new SSO domain or joining an existing one.  I assume that your triple check of DNS was both forward and reverse lookups.  Are you choosing to use NTP servers or sync time with the host?  NTP not matching between the target host and the new appliance is something that catches a lot of people.

I am joining an existing SSO domain that have a vCenter 6 appliance running embedded psc.

Nslookup runs properly across all machines. I have configured ntp on the hosts and set it to sync with the host.

Am experiencing exactly the same problem here: -

Trying to deploy a VCSA 6.0.0b external Platform Services Controller:-

- joining existing SSO domain (Windows vCenter Server 6.0 with Embedded PSC);

- fwd and reverse DNS lookups all working;

- only entering one DNS server IP during wizard;

- have tried with and without an NTP server;

- vDSwitch has Port Binding set to Ephemeral;

- have set MAC Address Changes to Accept on vDSwitch;

- have tried different browsers (Run As Admin);

- have extracted ISO again, rather than mounting it straight in Win8.1

- have SSH'd to failed PSC and manually added NTP server;

- have tried to gracefully remove the failed PSC from existing VC, KB2106736: "Could not find host id which maps to <IP ADDRESS> in Component Manager"

- have disabled antivirus on Windows machine where installing VCSA from;

- have reinstalled ClientManagementPlugin;

...still no joy.

Have deployed this PSC about 15 times over last two days, and still not working...

Following failed deployment, the PSC Console says:

Failed to start services. Firstboot error.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated please

Its a known issue i think .  if you have mulitple dns entries specified during deployment, that happens.  please use only 1 dns server and it should work

Replying to myself for everyone else's benefit....

This is what worked for me - adding manual entry into local hosts file of Windows machine that I was deploying the PSC from - even though domain DNS was resolving 100%, forward + reverse for the appliance FQDN & IP.

Now PSC appliance deploys successfully, and starts without the firstboot error = happy days!
