  • 1.  VCF 9.x - Evaluation Mode questions

    Posted Dec 02, 2025 01:36 PM

    Hello,

I understand that if I install VCF 9.x (vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, etc.) and there are no active licenses, it enters a 90-day evaluation mode.
My question is about the scenario where I have 4 servers (32 cores + 84 TiB RAW each) in an HCI setup, totaling 128 cores and 336 TiB RAW.

As I understand it, the evaluation mode allows me to use VCF for 90 days while the licenses are being acquired.
My doubt is whether this evaluation mode limits the usable vSAN capacity-assuming that if VCF uses a 1 core = 1 TiB model, only 128 TiB of vSAN could be used-or if no such limitation exists during evaluation.

I have not been able to find clear information regarding any specific limitations beyond the statement that the entire VCF stack is available in evaluation mode for 90 days.
All the official documentation only mentions the 90-day evaluation period, but it does not specify whether there are capacity or feature restrictions-such as limits on vSAN capacity or core-based licensing-during this mode.

    Thanks.

The is no capacity limit for vSAN during the do day evaluation mode period for VCF 9.0.   For your scenario, before the end of 90 days you would need to purchase 128 cores of VCF and 208 TiBs of the vSAN add-on.
