  • 1.  vCenter updatemanager - unable to upload esx4 iso

I am tring to upgrade my VI 3 to vSphere and I face following problem. I have upgraded the vCenter and all the components and now I need to upgrade ESXs. The issue is, that when I create a upgrade baseline and start uploading iso of esx4 dvd the window disappears at about 500megs of upload and no baseline is created and even serveral tries and vCenter restarts did not help. Any clues? It seems very strange, there is no error message the window just disappears.

Check the logs on your VC and see if you cant get any information. You might try uninstalling Update Manager and reinstalling it. It could be a database problem too. Is it a new database?

I could not find anything reasonable in logs, funy thing was that each time I tried the amount of uploaded file increased and on the end the upload succeeded. May be It is an issue that I am uploading file from deskop to local update manager repo and it is running as VM?

could you give some more details - what file exactly you are trying to upload? Is it where the VUM is installed or it is on a network storage - SAN/NAS.

What are the versions of your VUM/VC/VIC? If it is really that serious you should file support ticket.

I was uploading the iso image to VUM running on the same machine as the VI and the rdesktop session I was uploading from. The VM has actually its datastore on an iSCSI device however no issues with this datastore are appearing.

It seems to me to be more likely a VUM uploading system bug.

I meant that if the file that you are trying to upload resides on a network storage - (NAS for instance) you could have some problems because of file locking(if it is accessed by another user).

But anyway this is serious because it blocks your upgrades. Try to copy the .iso image to the VUM machine and do the upload locally.
