  • 1.  vCenter not accessible after upgrading host

    Hi,

    I run vCenter 6, and 3 ESXi hosts. I upgraded the ESXi hosts from version 6.7.0 to version 8.0. After that, the vCenter is unavailable. What must I do to access it or upgrade it to version 8.

    This question does not appear to be a Skyline question. If OP has not already reposted to the vCenter Server section, I advise doing so. VMware GSS will advise you that vCenter Server versions needs to at least match the level of the hosts. Also, in case you did not know all builds of vSphere 6 are no longer supported. This may play into your issue.

    If the questions is truly related to Skyline accessing the upgraded vCenter Server, I have found that this happens due to a change in Machine Cert within the vCenter Server. To address this issue, login to your Skyline collector and find the configuration for your vCenter Server. Edit the configuration and if my guess is correct, you will be prompted to accept the new certificate. Once you accept it, allow a few minutes for systems to sync up.

    Hi,

    What does Skyline have to do with it? the question does not refer to Skyline...

    The update sequence was wrong. First the vCenter and then the Esxi hosts.

    Hi,

    Before upgrading you should always check the update sequence "https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/78221". The vCenter must always be updated before the Esxi hosts.
    The basic rule is that the vCenter server must be an equal or greater version of the Esxi hosts it manages.

    You can do these steps on the three Esxi hosts.

    • Right-click the "Host" tab in the ESXi interface.
    • Click Disconnect from vCenter server -> Confirm

    After this, the vCenter is disconnected from the hosts. Check the access to the vCenter and if it works, upgrade the vCenter, then reconnect the Esxi hosts.
